WS Packaging is looking for a Technical Manager/Senior Project Manager to support our Algoma Facility
Position Objective:
To lead the identification and resolution of opportunities for improvement within the Value Stream at assigned location to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity performance through the use of the Lean toolsets and internal and external resources.
Essential Functions:
Duties may be modified or additional duties assigned.
Work with the Engineering department in support of operations with a focus on process and performance improvement opportunities in the areas of quality, safety, delivery, inventory and performance.
Identify opportunities for line speed gains
Help develop the processes to ensure specified line speeds are carried forward to subsequent jobs
Assist with development and audit adherence to standard work in production areas
Assist with monitoring and reducing waste and set up times in the value stream
Identify and assist with development, design and testing of engineered solutions to improve overall performance
Continue to gain expertise in lean process management tools such as VRK, TPI, 3P, etc
Lead and assist with countermeasures
Assist with leading and facilitating kaizen events
Continue to drive and support converting as many cells as possible to one piece flow
Continue to mentor others and advocate continuous improvement through the use of lean tools
Ensure proper documentation of testing and process improvement initiatives
Leverage learning from other WSPG facilities to reduce redundancy and increase the speed of implementation
Work as a contributing member of the Algoma Team in other duties as needed
Drive the continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment and processes to meet and exceed the goals and targets for the value stream.
Travel:
May require limited travel (daily/overnight/extended stays possible) when needed. Supervisor will determine need.
Requirements
Education/Training:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Business Management, or the equivalent knowledge and experience is required. A Bachelors Degree in Business Administration will be considered with appropriate work-related experience.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant operations experience including strong focus on continuous improvement in a fast-paced Lean atmosphere.
In addition, the candidate will have the following competencies:
Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate priorities simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate conversations with suppliers, co-workers, management, and subordinates
Proven leadership skills to motivate subordinates to work effectively and efficiently; ability to clearly communicate expectations and manage the performance of subordinates to achieve goals
Experience using Excel spreadsheets for reporting and analysis
Ability to analyze data to identify trends, areas for opportunity, and determination if changes are having expected impact
Must be self-motivated, results and action oriented.
Must possess sound interpersonal skills.
Experience as a change agent in an organization
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Ability to make independent and sound decisions.
Strong understanding of the lean toolsets and demonstrated experience leading process improvement events
Experience in a growth stage company, and background that is wide-ranging having required comprehensive analysis of complex situations, creative problem solving and strong influence skills is highly desired.
Contacts:
Has contact with all levels of company employees. Interacts daily with the production team and functional department managers such as Operations, Quality, Lean, Maintenance and Engineering. Direct Reports will vary based Process Engineer Manager and General Manager direction for the site.
Working Conditions:
Works in an office environment. May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the office work environment is usually low to moderate. May spend some time in a manufacturing environment and be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Occasional overnight travel is required, up to 25%. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
